GitSetGo is a free mobile role-playing game that teaches Git — the version-control tool behind virtually all modern software — by having players type real commands to win battles.

01 · What this is, in plain English

Git is the system software teams use to save versions of their work, track every change and combine code written by different people. Think of it as Google Docs' version history, Track Changes and an undo button — but for software: when someone adds a feature or fixes a bug, Git records what changed, who changed it and when, so the team can find the cause, return to an earlier version or restore work that was removed.

Nearly every modern software team depends on Git. But beginners usually encounter it through a command-line screen, unfamiliar terminology and cryptic error messages — so many developers don't properly learn it until something breaks on a real project.

GitSetGo teaches it by making you use it. You play a nervous new intern on their first day at a software company. A blunt mentor hands you a problem — a broken login page, a teammate's work that needs merging — and you solve it by typing a genuine Git command into a terminal built into the game. Right answers win the battle. Wrong answers get explained, then hinted at, never simply given away.

There are 30 levels, running from a beginner's very first command through to the operations that intimidate working professionals. In short: a pixel-art role-playing game where the weapon is a command line.

03 · How one level works

Every level pairs a short lesson with a battle. The mentor sets a problem; the player types the command that fixes it.

05 · The certificate

Completing the 30 levels unlocks a certificate of completion. The player types a command in the game's terminal, enters their name and email, and the credential is issued with a unique ID that anyone can verify online. It arrives by email and can be posted to LinkedIn.

Colleges and bootcamps can partner for their own organisation code. Students who enter it get the certificate covered by their institution, co-branded with its name. Everyone else can buy it in the app. The game itself is free either way.

Institutions apply at portal.gitsetgo.app: a short partnership agreement, then a dashboard listing every certified student by name, level and certificate number, exportable as a CSV. Institutions that opt in also appear on a public leaderboard (portal.gitsetgo.app/leaderboard), ranked by verified certificates their students have earned.

06 · Why it exists

AI has made writing code easy; keeping it alive is the hard part. Anyone can now generate a working app in an afternoon. But when generated code breaks — and it does — Git is the only way back. The studio's bet is that version control is the fundamental that survives the shift to AI-assisted development, and that the way to learn it is not documentation but repetition under pressure.

That reflects settled learning research: retrieval practice beats passive review. Watching a tutorial builds recognition; typing the command, getting it wrong and working out why builds recall.

07 · Who makes it

KraftPixel Labs — trading as KraftPixel Digital Solutions Private Limited — is a small product studio building learning experiences that don't feel like learning. GitSetGo is built in React Native and ships natively on iOS and Android, with a deliberately retro pixel-art look chosen so it reads as a game rather than an education app.

Abhishek Gharat is co-founder, and is available for interviews, product walkthroughs and demos in English.

09 · Quotes, cleared for use

Quotes from the KraftPixel team, and from the HR professionals we talk to about hiring junior developers.

"I've interviewed many candidates, nowadays many Gen Zs, who know the right answers. But the difference shows when they can explain what they tried, what went wrong, and how they fixed things themselves."
Aastha Oswal, HR Lead
"When I speak with colleges, they're not looking for another course. They want students to practise in a setting that feels real, before a job depends on it."
Ginelle Serrao, HR Executive
"You can watch tutorials and memorise commands, but real understanding comes from seeing what breaks, tracing the problem and finding your way back."
Prathamesh Gharat, CTO, KraftPixel
"The best learning happens when people are free to try, fail and try again. That freedom is much harder to find once the pressure of a real project begins."
Abhishek Gharat, CEO, KraftPixel
